Today marks the 25th anniversary of our very first Marine Mammal Medic training course, held at Dunnet Head, Caithness, on the 31st August 1997!
This was run by two of our founding members – Chairman Alan Knight and Trustee Mark Stevens via an invitation from Alistair Jack to set up a team in the area (all three pictured here together).
Since then our courses have built up an extensive network of trained volunteers around the UK, responding to over 3000 calls per year!
Our course and response protocols are well-respected internationally, having been built upon all the experience gained since we started out in 1988. So much so that over the years we have been invited to carry out training for teams in the Falkland Islands, Malta, Ireland, Kenya, Italy, Gibraltar, Kazakhstan and more!
Here’s to the next 25 years!
