BDMLR expands to cover Northern Ireland

BDMLR is growing!

This weekend two of our Directors, Julia and Dan, carried out a Marine Mammal Medic course at Portrush in Northern Ireland to train a new team of volunteers for the country.

Although we do have a handful of volunteers there already who have trained elsewhere in the UK, we haven’t formally trained and set up a team to specifically operate here before. That’s all changed as we officially now have one as of this weekend! This also means BDMLR is now operational across the whole of the UK too, which is an exciting step for us as a charity!

This course was facilitated and funded by Daera NI, to whom we are very grateful for inviting us for this opportunity. We will be working closely with colleagues at the seal rehabilitation centre at Exploris Aquarium and the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group to support marine mammal strandings response in Northern Ireland going forward.
