We are delighted to premier our new cetacean stranding animated video kindly produced By Archie Taplin. Archie got in touch with us through instagram asking if there was anything he could do to help us, animation wise. After perusing some of Archie’s previous animations on his instagram page (which can be found here) we were delighted to work with him!
Animations like this can cost thousands of pounds and Archie very kindly did this for us for free! To which we cannot thank him enough! In the 21st century, images and videos are much more powerful than text – nobody likes to read a lot of text! Therefore we are extremely lucky to work with Archie as we know we can use the video for many years to come and hope to work with Archie again to produce more animated videos very soon!
Archie said “I loved making this animation. Being a mixed media animator, I photographed paper and sandpaper as textures for the beach, cliffs and people. Each moving frame was hand drawn. I wanted the audience to be put in the shoes of the characters, so I decided to animate the people in an abstract/silhouetted form, and animate a few scenes from their point of view. Hopefully giving the audience the feeling that they could follow ‘the 5 P’s’ if they found themselves in that situation. Having worked as a marine wildlife guide I’ve had the amazing opportunity of seeing wild common, bottlenose and rissos dolphins off the coast of Cornwall. I wanted to use my animation and storytelling skills to help BDMLR’s mission to protect and rescue the amazing mammals that live around our coasts. It’s an honour and a privilege to work with BDMLR to be able to help inform people on the best practices when responding to a stranded marine mammal.”
Thank you so much Archie!
