In December 2024, our Medics attended to two seal pups found alone, dehydrated, and seriously underweight in North Yorkshire; separated from their mothers at a crucial time for their development.
Both pups were uplifted to our Yorkshire unit for supportive care and, once fit for travel, were relayed to RSPCA Stapely Grange, where they received round-the-clock care to support their needs back to health. Over the next few months, Branston and Hoison (named at Stapely Grange) spent time becoming self-sufficient and reached their target weights of 40kg, to which they were then fit for release.
Our Medics in Yorkshire relayed both seals back to the Yorkshire coastline, where they were released. Both pups galumphed (the term used to describe seals moving on land) into the sea and were seen splashing, diving, and bottling out at sea for a short while before heading out of sight; their journey coming full circle back to where their story began.
