Launching… BDMLR Ocean Allies!

20 July 2026 marks a special day.

British Divers Marine Life Rescue has today launched BDMLR Ocean Allies, a new regular-giving network helping to strengthen marine mammal rescue and response across the UK.

Every year, BDMLR’s volunteer Marine Mammal Medics respond to seals, dolphins, porpoises and whales in distress. Those numbers are rapidly on the increase, too. With over 5,000 calls for marine mammals in distress last year, from exhausted seal pups and stranded dolphins to whales entangled in fishing gear. Each of these incidents relies on trained people, specialist equipment and a coordinated response.

BDMLR Ocean Allies offers marine wildlife supporters a new way to stand behind that work with a regular monthly gift.

Starting from just £3 a month, BDMLR Ocean Allies will help to fund volunteer Marine Mammal Medic training, maintain and improve vital rescue equipment and strengthen BDMLR’s national response network. Reliable monthly donations allow the charity to plan ahead and prepare before the next call arrives, as well as look to the future.

Supporters can choose from three different Ocean Ally tiers, making it easy to select a monthly contribution that suits you. Whichever tier you choose, every Ocean Ally will help ensure BDMLR’s volunteer teams are better prepared to reach marine animals in urgent need.
