Jeremy Gilson from Cornwall has been awarded a prestigious Outstanding Contribution to Marine Mammal Rescue Award by BDMLR’s Trustees. His award was presented as a surprise by Director Dan Jarvis during the monthly online meeting of the Seal Research Trust. During the BDMLR update section of the meeting, Dan announced an award would be presented to a mystery recipient and then knocked on the door to Jeremy’s home, much to his great surprise and delight!
Dan commented: “Jeremy Gilson was nominated for his outstanding work as a volunteer Rescue Coordinator on our national hotline, taking emergency calls, coordinating teams on the ground, and helping to organise complex responses to incidents across the country. His calm approach under pressure, commitment to animal welfare. Jeremy has also been active in attending training courses in South Wales, Yorkshire and Cornwall on the road to becoming an instructor. As well as this, he and his wife Angela have also sponsored a pen at our Cornwall Seal Hospital every year since it opened in 2021, which is an incredibly generous show of support to the care and well-being of the animals in our care.”
The Outstanding Contribution to Marine Mammal Rescue Awards (or Trustees Awards for short) are chosen by BDMLR Trustees Alan Knight, Mark Stevens, Geoff Hammock, Faye Archell, Martin Boon and Gavin Parsons and presented to Medics who have gone above and beyond for the charity and demonstrated a dedication to helping the marine environment in a positive way.
This year there are 9 awards, however, due to the nature of the charity and the number and spread of directors and trustees not everyone will be presented at the same time, so over the coming weeks you will see who has received an award.
